How to Oil Pull - A Visual Demonstration

Many of you may be wondering just how to oil pull to begin with. While the practice of oil pulling has been used for thousands of years per Ayurvedic tradition, it has recently been taken the Western health and wellness community by storm. Here are instructions on how to oil pull, using our DrTung's Oil Pulling Concentrate: How to Oil Pull-web-final
  1. Clean and brush tongue. Begin your morning dental health routine by cleaning your tongue with your Stainless Steel Tongue Scraper. Then, brush your teeth normally.
  2. Swish 1 Tablespoon mixture. You can either use your DrTung's Oil Pulling Concentrate undiluted, or mix 1:3 with a carrier oil of your choice. Either way you will get benefits from the botanical ingredients. (Of note: traditional Ayurveda uses sesame oil as the base oil, due to its subtle, penetrating, and antibacterial effects.)
  3. Swish, chew and pull. Lightly 'chew on' and swish oil in mouth for 5-15 minutes. Our enhanced oil is more efficacious, reducing swishing time (standard recommendation for oil pulling with other oils is for 20 minutes).
  4. Spit. When done, do not swallow but spit into toilet or trashcan (not into sink!).
  5. Rinse. Rinse your mouth with lukewarm, saline water.
  6. Repeat. Repeat daily for best results.
So, How Does How Oil Pulling Work? Oil pulling is the practice of swishing or chewing oil, which releases salivary and digestive enzymes, antibacterial and antifungal/antiviral agents. This is said to "pull" toxins from the body. In traditional Ayurveda, sesame oil is herbalized with turmeric and other plants to enhance detoxification and beneficial effects. Such an oil is "lipophilic," meaning it attracts other oils and fats. Skin and gums can harbor harmful, fat-soluble toxins. Like oil massage, oil pulling is lipophil-mediated detoxification protocol that may reduce body burdens of fat-soluble toxicants (Herron R, Fagan J. Lipophil-Mediated Reduction of Toxicants in Humans. Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine 2002;8(5)40-51).   For more information about the various oils used in oil pulling, check out this link.
