On Earth Day: Sustainability Everyday!

One of our favorite holidays is Earth Day. It's important as a society that we check in together periodically on the value of sustainability and pay homage to this great planet that we dwell upon. The values of Earth Day are those that we practice each and everyday as sustainability is embedded directly into our Mission as a company. These elements of our Mission include:

• We use only natural ingredients, mostly wildcrafted and organic, and have a long-term commitment to recyclable and biodegradable materials. Most of our plastic is made with EcoPure, an additive that allows the microbes in an active microbial environment to colonize on the plastic and digest the polymer.

EcoPure® is a biodegradable plastic additive that causes plastic to biodegrade through a series of chemical and biological processes in a landfill disposal environment. Because some oral health products simply require a sturdier substance to withstand water damage and such in a bathroom environment, we choose to use EcoPure® in products that require plastic so as to minimize our footprint - EcoPure® is added to expedite degradability if the product isn’t recycled and gets to a landfill. Our tests indicate that our plastic products could biodegrade in landfill conditions in as little as 5 years, versus regular plastic that may take upwards of 100 years.” Our Smart Floss® containers are made with an EcoPure® plastic shell and is the first dental floss made with this additive. In addition, you can easily recycle the container (it is made of recyclable PP). We do not use petrochemical waxes or artificial flavors. Like many flosses, Smart Floss® is made of polyester fibers. Unlike other flosses, Smart Floss® is made in a proprietary, patented process which gives that softer, expanded effect while flossing. This makes it up to 55% more effective in removing plaque. We have opted not to use silk due to the heavy processing and the treatment of the silkworms. Both our Adult and Kids Snap-On Toothbrush Sanitizers are composed with EcoPure. Furthermore, the Adult Snap-On Toothbrush Sanitizers now come with two replacement Snap-In Refills. Each Snap-In lasts for 60 days, making one entire pack last for 6 months.
